If you are reading this newsletter write gobble gobble in your child's agenda. It will be worth a quarter during banking on Monday.
* Don't forget that you and your child can check the BLOG daily for homework. On the BLOG your child can also find links to practice many different standards.
*Don't forget to sign behavior sheets when your child receives a check and sign the agenda nightly. Please remember we are trying to teach the children responsibility, so it is their job to ask you to sign the agenda.
*The Reading Log expectations have increased for the 2nd Nine Weeks. The students are now expected to read at least 90 minutes per week. We know they are all capable. Please sign the Reading Log on Sunday or daily next to where your child logs in his or her reading. You would just have to squeeze your intials in by the title or time read. This will insure that your child is reading on most days or nights. We have told them any reading done independently at school may be recorded on the log. Also remind your child that the reading log is a way for us to make the children accountable for the reading they do, so they should be putting in the time and effort. We are looking for quality over quantity.

Reading Workshop- How do I make inferences? - How are Cause and Effect related? How do we identify cause and effect in fiction and nonfiction? We have finished our novels. We have one group still reading Invisible in the Third Grade, and although we will not take tests on this book, we would like for this group to finish the book on his or her own. It is very important for the children to continue working on fluency and comprehension. They should be able to finish the book by the end of Thanksgiving Break.
Math Workshop- We will continue to practice our multiplication facts, but next week we will move onto understanding Division. Since it will be the 4 1/2 week mark on Thursday, if your child doesn't know through his or her 4's and 5's, they will receive a 1 on the Progress Report. Please remember the math standard for the Second Nine Weeks says, the children should be fluent with their facts through the 10's. Please remind your child that he or she should be practicing their multiplication facts everyday. We are finding that many of the children say they are not practicing the facts. Without practice, it will be hard for them to understand and memorize the facts.
Writing Workshop- The second nine week genre is Response to Literature. Our focus will be on our hooks and connections.
English- Pronouns and Dictionary skills
Spelling- No spelling list
Social Studies- We decided to cover the mountain ranges when we return to school after the break.
