**A HUGE thank you goes out to ALL the moms that have been helping us get copies and games made to help make learning fun for the children. We would also like to thank Mrs. Letts for coming in on Wednesday and reading to us. She shared a wonderful story that the children seemed to really enjoy.
** Our class has reached our 15 compliments, so we will be deciding how we want to celebrate next week. YEAH!!
Reminders-
* Don't forget that you and your child can check the BLOG daily for homework. On the BLOG your child can also find links to practice many different standards.
*Don't forget to sign behavior sheets when you child receives a check and sign the agenda nightly. Please remember we are trying to teach the children responsibility, so it is their job to ask you to sign the agenda.
*Please sign the Reading Log on Sunday or daily next to where your child logs in his or her reading. You would just have to squeeze your intials in by the title or time read. This will insure that your child is reading on most days or nights. We have told them any reading done independently at school may be recorded on the log. Also remind your child that the reading log is a way for us to make the children accountable for the reading they do, so they should be putting in the time and effort. We are looking for quality over quantity.

Math Workshop- Next week, our focus will be on Adding and Subtracting with Regrouping. Our class will also continue to find unknowns. This past week, we learned how to use our KWLE graphic organizers for problem solving. Our struggle and what we will continue to work on this year is how to Explain our answers and our steps on how we got to the solutions.
Writing Workshop- We have continued working on our Personal Narratives. Today, most of the children began working on revising and editing their narratives. Mr. Massey and I have been conferencing with the children trying to help them understand that it is so important to "Show Not Tell" in our stories. Our focus has been: A hook or grabber, adding strong verbs, juicy adjectives, transitions, and adding a Take-Away ending. Next week, we will finish our Personal Narratives and begin writing Fairy Tales "Imaginative Stories".
English- Our focus has been on identifing Subjects and Predicates. We have explained that the verb starts the complete predicate, and it is the simple predicate. The subject is who or what the sentence is about. the simple subject is the Subject noun. An example of the question and answer flow that we use is- The dog jumped over the fence. What jumped over the fence? the dog What is being said about the dog? dog jumped ( SN= dog and Verb= jumped). Next week, we will continue learning about subjects and predicates and take a test on Thursday. **Ask you child to sing the Noun and verb jingle for you. These will help them identify nouns and verbs.
Spelling- Next week, we will learn about Homophones- Words that sound like, but they are spelled differently and mean different things.
Social Studies- Geographical Features- The features the children are responsible for are- Equator, Lines of Latitude, Prime Meridian, Lines of Longitude, and where Greece is located.
